About Sulpizio Cardiovascular Center
Sulpizio Cardiovascular Center is the region's first academic-based facility to combine all heart and vascular-related services, programs and technology under one roof. The technologies, techniques and treatments we develop at UC San Diego Health are setting new standards in vascular and cardiac care — for our patients and for the world.
The center is a global leader in:
- Pulmonary thromboendarterectomy (PTE)
- Balloon pulmonary angioplasty (BPA)
In February 2005, UC San Diego received a $10 million gift from Richard and Maria (Gaby) Sulpizio to help construct a state-of-the-art cardiovascular patient care and clinical research facility. In recognition, our facility is called the Sulpizio Cardiovascular Center.
The center opened in 2011 and unifies ambulatory, clinical, and inpatient heart and stroke care in one convenient location. Sulpizio Cardiovascular Center was the first acute care medical facility in the San Diego region to receive LEED Gold certification from the United States Green Building Council (USGBC)
