About Our Medical Center
Jacobs Medical Center at UC San Diego Health is a 364-bed advanced medical center home to inpatient care, surgical facilities, outpatient clinics, a blood bank, and a pharmacy. It is connected to Perlman Medical Offices and includes Thornton Pavilion, an inpatient facility formerly Thornton Hospital. It is within walking distance of Sulpizio Cardiovascular Center, Shiley Eye Institute, and Moores Cancer Center. The unique features of our 10-story Jacobs Medical Center, which opened in 2016, include:
- Ten operating rooms (ORs), including a four-OR intraoperative imaging suite designed to support the most advanced brain and spine surgeries
- A floor dedicated to blood and marrow transplantation patients, with a full-floor air filtration system that enables immunocompromised patients to leave their treatment rooms to walk, exercise in a gym, and visit family and friends
- Care for every kind of birth, including three rooms within a midwifery-staffed Birth Center, 32 private postpartum rooms with foldout beds for family members, and a Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) with 52 private rooms.
- Dedicated family areas with lounges and kitchenettes on each inpatient floor
- Rooftop helicopter landing pad
- A 150-piece therapeutic art collection

Construction alert: Ongoing construction projects may impact your travel time to the La Jolla medical campus. We appreciate your patience and encourage you to arrive early for your appointment.
There are changes to traffic patterns and pathways on Campus Point Drive and Medical Center Drive.
- Lanes on Campus Point Drive will shift, but two-way traffic will be maintained with a single lane in each direction.
- Two-way traffic will also be maintained on Medical Center Drive (west of the intersection), with a single lane in each direction.
Closure of Parking Lot P760 for January 2025: During the temporary lot closure (P760) in front of Shiley Eye Institute targeted for January 2025, please allow additional time when arriving for your appointment and park at the nearest location in the Athena structure.

- Main entrance (Thornton Pavilion): 5 a.m. – 8 p.m. Monday – Sunday
- West entrance: 5 a.m. – 8 p.m. Monday – Friday
- Emergency Department: Open 24 hours
Valet drop-off:
- Main entrance (Thornton Pavilion): 7 a.m. – 5 p.m. weekdays
- West entrance: 5 a.m. – 5 p.m. weekdays
Valet drop-off and pick-up services will be delayed starting mid-November. Please plan accordingly when arriving for your appointment and using valet, or consider self-parking for faster access to your car anytime.
